4/15 Four of your favorite bands

MGMT

What at first seemed to be the strangest band that I'd ever come across with (what with their heroin ridden music videos and lyrics), ultimately became one of my favorite bands after hearing some of their better songs. True I don't really get some of their songs--as in literally I cannot understand the words!--but you have to admit that most of them have moved my heart in a lot of ways. Though my last.fm profile says otherwise, KIDS and TIME TO PRETEND  has got to be my favorite song from them. If you've listened to them, you'll understand that these two songs have one thing in common: nostalgia.

Oh and you have to admit, Andrew VanWyngarden is one fine man.

Vampire Weekend

Much like MGMT, it didn't appeal to me at once. For a very shallow reason too--THE BAND'S NAME! What can I say? I discovered the band while the Twilight craze was going on, and being the inner indie person that I am, I hated everything mainstream (and the book is just plainly stupid, no arguments there). But I stand corrected! I thought their music was going to be sad and slah-my-wrist-like, but it was actually the opposite. Their band's happy and sunny beat is definitely worth obsessing about. Plus, one of their songs was played during the credits of my favorite movie, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

Favorite songs: Horchata, Ottoman, Giving Up the Gun, Campus, Cape Cod Kwassa

Explosions in the Sky

Living proof that you do not need lyrics to make a song utterly beautiful. For me, they are like the Mozart or Tchaikovsky of today. I could listen to album after album of this band and they would never get old to me. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, so is a song. With or without lyrics.

Favorite songs: Only Moment We Are Alone, Your Hand In Mine, Postcards From 1952, Last Known Surroundings, Look Into the Air, First Breath After A Coma

The Beatles

Obviously, they have to be my #1 favorite band of all time. I practically grew up listening to them. And what else can I say? I think everyone in the English speaking world knows why they're so goddamn famous. Even at the end of their musical career as The Beatles they decided to end it with a bang and held one of the most memorable final acts in history: The impromptu rooftop concert. Unlike most Beatles fans though, I do not wish I was in the 60s because music was better then. For the record, I like the music they produce today (some anyway -rolls eyes-), but once in a while when I put on my headphones and sink into a world of kaleidoscope eyes and strawberry fields, I cannot help but wish that I too had been part of The Beatles mania.

3/15 Three things you own that you love.

Wow. Such a materialistic question. (I can't pretend that I am not enjoying this).

Here we have my iPhone, Seth. Those who know me very well are aware that I love music, and I can never go around without it (especially during road trips and awkward moments haha!), so having a device that houses my entire music library is definitely helpful. Since it can view PDF and PPT files, I had no need to print out the hand outs I had for my lecture classes. And finally, I'm pretty sure you guys are all aware of the cool apps and games the iPhone has. :]

Clementine! Handy, light, with a cool skin, Clementine has instantly become one of my favorite things. :) During my entire college life, I always had trouble bringing a laptop around because my old one was as heavy as 3 of my Pharmacology books put together. As a plus, Clementine has a looong battery life, and is surprisingly able to run CS5 with no trouble at all. Oh and getting a badass desktop is cool too ;)

Meet my bible, Norwegian Wood. I don't know why, but there is just something to this book that makes it absolutely special to me. You can't exactly say that I can relate to it, since I'm not really promiscuous… haha! Let's just say that of all of Murakami's books (I have 7 of them!), this is the one that has managed to move my heart the most. The movie did no justice to the book though, so please, for your sake, don't even bother.

2/30 Your favorite female vocal song.

Saying that I like Adele would be an understatement. Saying that I like this song would be an even bigger one. I have to admit that I only discovered Adele (same with this song) last year, when I saw the Cassie episode on Skins. Indie cred be damned, mainstream or not, I will listen to this song foreva.

2/15 Two secrets

I don't really like sharing intimate things about me on the internet, so here are two not so big of a deal secrets about me:

1. I recently bought a packet of milk tea solely because it was suggested to me a person who was a huge part of my life before. Little did I know that he and his current girlfriend enjoys milk tea. Now I feel kinda stupid. I don't even like tea. =))

2. I have 3 Justin Bieber songs in my iPod. :( You guys now have every right to shoot me in the face.

2/30 A song that you hate

Ugh. The way they sing, their ridiculous hairstyle, their even more ridiculous outfit. I hate everything about this video. :/ It looks like it was directed by some blind day care teacher. It hurts my brain too much. :))

1/30: Your favorite song

I actually don't have an all-time favorite song. My playlist is as inconsistent as John Mayer's love life. For the time being though, I'd like to say that this is my current favorite song. Listen to it. What at first sounds like a pretty shallow song about drugs and getting high is actually about something more.
